Default lt1 problem

I finally went to the track, and I was very sad with my results. 8.84 with a 2.1 60 ft. in the eighth mile, my mods are Edelbrock headers, SLP dual/dual catback, gutted catalitic converter, cut-out, 1.6 harland sharp roller rockers, comp cams cc305 cam, ported heads with 3 angle valve job, dual valvesprings, 2800 stall converter and the stock 2.73 gears with a good tune.
My problem is when the car gets up to about 5500rpm it starts to pop and seems like it is loosing cylinders because it will hardly rev. Also it woln,t shift when this happens, it goes to 6200rpm and drops off a few hundret and comes back to 6200 and shifts, popping the whole time.

Sounds like it may be floating the valves if I had to guess. The springs are probably weak. Just my .02 though.

Lets see... 2.73's, 2.1 short, and what sounds like a dying Optispark.

well first of, i would say if your going to the 8th mile i would get rid of those 2.73 and get some 3.73 or 4.10, i mean the 8th mile is all about 60 floot. And have you cheeked the plugs and wire? As far as you opti going out , thats anyones guess,

I know all to well about the gear problem, and I had considered the opti and maybe floating valves. I just can't see it floating valves because it used to hit 6500rpm no problem. I also have to get a new opti to.
