Default Hypertech

heres the story 3 weeks ago i bought a hypettech programmer 111, off of ebay for 150$ suppose to fit the 94 camaro LT1. but when i got it the cord didnt plug into the diagnostic port. so the guy promises to settle it on ebay, doesnt.

So 3 days ago i call hypertech to order the Adaptor it mentions in the manual to get it to plug and work on a 94 camaro. since this unit is for a 95 camaro, 94 95 vette......

the guy charges me 50bucks and says theres no refund, and i open the package today and its the same Cord i already have!

theres suppose to be an adaptor on the cord!

so now ive wasted 200 precious dollars.

what to do?

Did you use paypal to buy it off ebay?? If so then get them involved, that is if the guy didn't send what he said he was selling. I had to do this a couple weeks ago because after 4 weeks of waiting the dude still hadn't shipped my item and he also quit responding to emails. I turned him in on a saturday and that monday I got a tracking number from paypal. I think there is a time limit though, like 30 days.

There is an ALDL plug that goes into your ALDL port, then the cable from the Hypertech connects to that. Do you have both pieces?

Try to get him too take it back, they are junk anyway so you would be better off than getting it too work.

Have you ever used or owned one? Mine worked just fine when I had it.

they work great for what they are. On the F-body the 94 and 95 programmier are the same but they have different ALDL ports. 95 uses the OBD-II port and 94 uses the old GM port. Call Hypertech and tell them they sent you the wrong one is that is all that is wrong.

Can you snp a pic of your port? we could tell for sure after that ;0

You can not make an intelligent argument that it is even as good as custom tuning, because if it was, custom tuners would just copy it and custom tuning cost less so other than the handheld part I fail too see one benifit. Oh and if you like I can post links to threads on b-body and f-body boards where people report faster times at the track with stock and custom tuning over the hypertech. I started bookmarking them just to try to educate those that refuse to listen to reason.

I did try hypertech tuning briefely(copied file I did not waste money on a unit) it was crap.

There's more to it than just the "power tuning" portion of the unit.

If you want to go there, then why bother trying to make a fatass car fast when you can pick up an F-body for a similar price and be faster right off the bat.

Because an f-body does not fit my other needs and wants. Have you ever driven half way across the country with 4 people and luggage in your Camaro and done so comfortably how about towing a fishing boat, all weather daily driver including 10" of snow? Didn't think so. Besides the Caprice chassis hooks much better than the f-body even with me on street tires most LS1 cars even see nothing but tailights at least till the 1/8, the local track prep sucks but it does not hurt me as bad as most other cars most LT1 and LS1 f-bodies will pass me before the 1/4 though because they are trapping higher, once I get headers on my car that will be a big help even without other work I have in the planning stage.

Yes there is more too the Hypertech than just questionable power programming it can effectively adjust for tire size changes and gearing changes, tweak shift points, fan temps and I am sure several more things I am forgetting but when custom tuning is available starting at about $50 I don't see the point in paying even $100 for a used Hypertech. For the price of a new one you could get dyno tuning.

Hypertech is good when you have a brand new car that might visit the dealer. The one's around here don't like it when they scan your PCM on the car and find the program been changed. That's why my dad bought a hypertech programmer for his truck. They're good for the few things they do, but like 96capricemgr said custom tuning at half the cost is twice as good.

And Compstall, if your hypertech worked fine when you had it, why don't u still have it?

If you can, return it. If all you need is the speed limiter off, then get a mail order tune from PCMforless for a measly 100 bucks. Don't waste the money on the HPP3.

This kind of **** pisses me off. There's absolutely no need to start insulting what the man drives just because you disagree with him about the functionality of a mod. Not cool, man.

He didn't start anything, he posted a mature argument against your opinion and you responded like a 12 year old "Oh yeah, well your car sucks!"

I JUST sold it last week. I'm 'bout ready to put this cam in and the Hypertech won't help me anymore after that. Twofast4lv will be doing the tuning if he's got the time...
