Default 700r4 Swap

What would i need to do to swap a 700r4 into my 94 camaro and make the speedo still work without buying aftermarket gauges? I have another thread on the 93's speedometer, but is there a way to translate the cable into an electrical signal that will run to the speedo?

Look up TH400 swaps on one of the boards it would use the same converter. Honestly the only thing you will get out of this swap is LESS control over shift timing(bad) and firmness(livable). I know everyone likes to blame the computer for the 4L60Es problems but think about it engine output jumped at the same time as the "E" version of this tranny was put into service. Common sense dictates that the extra power might have something to do with failures.
Two genuine things that can stand correcting in the "E" trannies is the PWM Transgo eliminates that and I don't think it was in 94 anyway, second is Transgo makes a vacuum modulator to control line pressure and thereby shift firmness. This allows quicker response to your throttle input but at the expense of loosing pcm shift firmness, you still retain the finite control over shift points and lockup though which are wonderful things for the strip and drivability.

The car came as a v6, therefore no v8 4l60e, and i alread have a complete 700r4 built with probuilt street strip kit. I am running a carb'd gen 1 383.

Ok that makes a lot more sense. I have a pro-built.net(built by Dana not just parts) 4L60E in my Caprice and could not be happier. Like I said take a look at this and othe r Camaro boards for a thread on a TH400 or TH350 swap and you should find info on the box you need since they would need the same thing.

This is about putting a TH400 in an Impala might be some useful info there, the box he used was expensive but maybe it will lead you in the right direction at least.
