Default Converter and Gears?

I have been planning on putting in a new converter and some new gears but i dont know what to go with. so is there any suggestions on which setup i should go with? This will still be my daily driver so i dont need something to extreme but good for some street racing and probably some track time.
Thanks

A Vigi 2800-3200 and some 3.73s, on tires you will see quite a bit of gain. I lost a good bit with the Vigi went from a 9.1 to a 8.58 in the 1/8 on street tires, imagine what it would do on drag raidals. With a set 3.73s you should see about .2 off your time in the 1/4 on drag radials. These two mods will require drag radials though for any chance at hooking. Street tires just wont cut it of you wanna drag race.

I will second the 2800-3200 stall but my prefference is Edge save a few hundred dollars and get a piece proven to perform as well some of the Impala guys even like the Edge better after having both in the same car. For gears I went with 3.42s in my Caprice and even with my taller tire I like it. The 2800 Edge/3.42s are mellow enough in my Caprice to let me tow a little and use the car as a daily driver cross country cruiser, snow and the like being part of the daily driver routine to the tune of 20-25K a year. So you could use the 2800/3.42s as conservative minimums depending on what you think you can tolerate.

I second getting the vigilante converter, and the 2800-3200 stall with 3.73 gears.

I aggree. Myself and several customers have tested different converters in our cars. The Vigilante has been at least as fast, usually faster, and drive better on the street than the same stall converters by other companies. At least in the F body & Vette. Never had a B body, so can't say about those.

Good luck, Ed

I'll second the Edge Converter. They are becoming very popular on b-body cars. I have very good street manners with my 2800-3000rpm Street Edge and 3.73s. One thing we all can agree on is that street radials won't do you a thing of good w/ a high stall TC.

Here's Edge's website if you want to check them out. Personally I think they should have close up shots of the girl in the top corner holding the converters

I have a 2800 vig for sale. It still has the free restall if anyones interested. Swapping to a 350 turbo, so I can't use it. Car went .4 faster when I installed it.

If you know anyone looking for one send them my way.

The .4 seconds matt says he gained is actually fairly normal for any of the quality 9.5" converters(Edge Yank Vig and I am sure some others), my case was a little odd and I ended up gaining much more. One thing overlooked is yes the stall helps you leave the line harder but it also helps keep revs optimal after the shift and the 9.5" TCs weigh a lot less a good 20+lbs. less and that is weight that has to be accelerated at engine rpms think of the amount of energy saved to turn the tires.

At least a 3.42 rear. I cannot stress how important rear gears are when you start modifying. After heads, cam and boltons I did NOT put gears in. My Vette suffers as a result with its shitty 2.59 rear. Now I have no money for the upgrade.
