Default ideas for lt1 setup

well guys..i am crossing over to the dark side. i currently have a 98 trans am convertible. i am going to sell it and start work on this project car i bought. its a 94 lt1 car. the car has no tranny or motor..the wiring harness is still there. IF and IF i was going to go lt1 i would have to find a pull out lt1 with all accessories.. i am planning on this car to be mainly a drag car..i MIGHT MIGHT tag it and drive it occasionaly. i am leaning very very heavily toward a procharged carbureted setup. if i was to go lt1 what would be required to make serious power...new heads, forged bottom end..supercharger etc...i am a NEWBIE at lt1..never even changed an air filter on one.. i know it would be cheaper to go with the sbc setup.. i have also considered going the the accel dfi setup but cant seem to find a whole lot of info on it..i have considered going nitrous instead of the procharger..i just basically would like for you guys to throw some ideas at me..im pretty much starting from scratch..it will have a th400 behind it as well as a 9inch or 12 bolt.. more than likely a 355 or 383 stroker with a heafty shot and a king demon sitting on the top.. ..thanks matt

FT. Smith...been there once-ter-twice to Ft. Chaffee. If you wanna make power in an LT1, stroke it, and juice it. When you stroke it, that will cover the forged bottom end. Solid roller cam, Goods heads, matched intake and all the goodies to go with. Speed density (93 version) to eliminate the MAF....But it all depends on your class rules.
IHRA has a class foe fuel injection cars that limits the cam to stock lift, unlimited duration, stock comp ratio, and there a guy here (record holder) that runs 9's.

Damn! That looks like my LS1 car in the picture. Is the top tan, or black. Mine top & interior is tan.

If I wanted to go real fast, I would look into running a regular sbc, using a Bowtie block, with SB2 heads, especially if you are going with a carb. You can find used NASCAR SB2 top end setups, much cheaper than you can build them. No flys on their stuff, either.

Good luck, Ed

well you can easily make a very fast car using a mildly built 383 that is built to handle lots of boost. or a wildly built 383 thats built to handle lots of boost. depends on if you want to drive it on the street. dont forget youll need to build the rest of the car too, not just the drivetrain if you want to handle that type of power.

if you go carbed doing as ed suggested isnt a bad idea. those parts are still perfectly good for you, just not for someone with a multi million dollar car.

thanks guys... to answer a few q's.i dont care about class rules..i just mainly go to do heads up drags for fun..pretty damn expensice habit .... no the top is black, but i have seen some tan ones and they look pretty good..dont like the white ones though.. .. i just thought since the computer.wire harness etc.. was still in the car,i might try my hand at the lt1..i love the ls1 as well..it amazing how much power those things are capable off..after i put the second one in my car..i just couldnt belive the streetability an hp of the motor. its just that for the most part the car will be a drag car and for the money..the sbc seems to be the way to go..parts are so much cheaper..i guess ill start out with a new tubular k member, roll cage, shocks etc...then i will try and decide what type of c.i.d i want to run...it was just the thought of the lt1 with a big *** procharger under the hood...what about the sbc with a procharger? i just know there wont be much room under the cowl and was thinking maybee with a slightly lower single plane..i could fit the intake pipe from the charger on there wiithout any issue? i dont know...anyone got any good links for the lt1 builds? i was just trying to determine if it would be cost worthy to build one.. from my reading it seems the heads are the weak point on these motors...what type of cash are we looking at for a decent set.. i will search the sponsers but i did a quick search yesterday and seemed some didnt carry lt1 heads...sorry like i said i am a NEWB at these animals..better stick to my guns and stay away...hahahhahah
thanks matt
