Maf ends
Maf ends I was just wondering if buying the maf ends would help me any. I already have K&n filter,CAI,ported TB, SLP Temp. module, the last thing is the underdrive pulleys from BBK onthe intake side. On the exhaust side I already have shorty headers, gutted cats, and a Slp catback. All this is on a 97 SS. If anyone could tell me that there would be some gains about how much and is it worth it. The maf ends are from thunderracing. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.
I have heard it just throws off your MAF reading. I notices a decline of about 2-4mpg when i descreened mine, but it's been gradual and my plugs have never been replaced so i am sure it's those in combination with my O2s needing to be replaced are what is causing my 18-22mpg. Anyway if you port it yourself don't do it in your bedroom. The aluminum shavings get everywhere.
It took me exactly 2 hours including removal from the engine, cutting the foils with just a hacksaw blade, and grinding them flat with a dremel cutting wheel, then a dremel sandpaper wheel to port my MAF. I have seen in increased 2mpg on average from porting the MAF than descreening it, so porting it is about equal to not doing anything at all. It's less of a restriction at WOT though, and i dont think the MAF is used at WOT so it would increase power minimally if at all. I think the TB is more of a restriction than the MAF. Anyway dont buy the ends, just port it yourself if you decide to go that route.

BY porting or changing the ends of the MAF all you accomplish is destroying the calibration, IT IS NOT A FLOW RESTRICTION TILL BUILT STROKER TERRITORY. Get one you didn't screw up and have the pcm reprogrammed and you will get much better gains and ones that last at that.
