Default What do all of you think of this 383 LT1??

I saw this Camaro at the track Friday. I got to talk to the owner and he gave me more or less all the specs on the car. SO what do ya think????

This is what it had when i saw it run, based on what he told me:
-Forged 383 bottom end
-Flat top pistons 11:1 compression
-AFR 210, Race ready, out of the box
-all bolt ones, electric water pump, headers ,ect
-auto , Turbo400 trans, and a stall-dont know wich one
-all suspesion is stock and the rear-end too, has a aftermaket k-member
-dosent have a/c stuff or back, passager seats
-sollid roller cam with a .620 lift on the intake and .630 ex. duration is like 240/250 i think?
-42lb. injectors, tuned
-cut out.
-what he dynoed = 405rwhp at HPE

What he ran based on the timeslip that i saw:

60 foot: 1.567
1/4 mile: 11.335
MPH: 119.43

Pretty nice setup, dyno numbers seem kind of low though.

They are probably low because of the high stall....http://www.converter.com/whatsnew_dynamometer.htm

If he opened up those AFRs the car would make a good bit more power

Big stall is killing the numbers

Very weak for a high compression 210 afr head and auto car. Poor choice of cam defanatly. on todays standards a Solid roller stroked lt1 should be easily in the 10s if you arent you are behind.

maybe a couple of people from the Houston area may recognize the car.... He got his car dynoed at HPE, and he ran at the shootout at San Antonio not too long ago.... the Green Camaro has a small HPE sticker on the back of it.... It was at HRP Friday night, making some late passes @ 10 PM.... sounded really good, but i expected it to run a lil faster... I was out there with Regorih355....

Dyno number do seem a bit low but overall sounds like a good set up. I wish I could afford that setup

Sounds to me like he spent waaay to much money to run those times. IMO its a horrible setup, I wish I could've made more passes with my 383(only got two passes), I was shooting for 11.30's n/a with drag radials, stock ported heads, HR cam, 4l60e, 10 bolt, and only the back seats taken out.

dont be too worried about the #'s put down to the ground...look at the timeslip and what the car approx. weighs.

I must say, 'I' would have 'expected' it to be a little faster.

I suspect that my 396 with a hydraulic roller should dyno 425 to the wheels N/A. Perhaps his cam is too big for his heads?

Jorge's car is a pump gas mild solid roller setup. It really isnt' anything special. 405 rwhp through a turbo 400 is pretty good. Especially on the Mustang dyno. I've got the car tuned right now for nitrous. So 11.3 on motor isn't bad. The car's got 9's written all over it once we finish the suspension and turn on the gas.

I'd give'em a break. They probably still have bugs to work out. AFRs and that much cam (bigger than mine), it should run. I dropped mine a full second last year, same engine, etc. Just tweaking everything else. It's not all in the engine. I would imagine the Mustang dyno & the nitrous tune up account for the weak hp numbers. His 60' times are a bit weak, it will step up some when they get it leaving. That alone will put it close to the tens. Don't know how much nitrous would help, I have never messed with that stuff. I kinda like to do it the hard way. More satisfying to me, but I'm old & weird.

Good luck, Ed

You can't put all the stock in the dyno number on this one. The track times are a bit low looking, but getting a setup dialed in takes time. As for the dyno numbers there are several things keeping them low..... high stalled TH400, mustang dyno and I am sure either a 12 bolt or 9" rear. All of those things are "heart breakers" when it comes to a dyno run. The mustang dynos read considerably lower than a dynojet.
