Yes, the head gaskets can be replaced while the engine is in the car. I would probably go ahead and replace both of the gaskets(you will have to pull the intake anyway) and I used fel-pro #1074's when I replaced my gaskets.

They should come in a set of 2 when you buy the head gaskets. I like the Victor Reiz brand and run them on my Vette. You can change them in the car.

I put in impala head gaskets (.029 compressed hieght compared to .049 camaro/firebird). Like they said, it can easily be done in the car.

Definately replace both sides, dealer replaced one on mine under warranty and 6 moths later I was tearing it down because the other side went. I compared the Fel-Pro to GM and found the GM gaskets have about twice as much material in the area where they like to leak.

I'm with 95zpro, I would recommend the fel-pro 1074's. I've had them on my car for almost 2 years, and I'm running a little bit higher compression than stock. I haven't had a single problem. Yes they can be replaced in the car, and DEFINITELY replace both at the same time. You might as well anyways since you have everything torn down.

It's what I've been doing for the past few weeks

Proof you can do it in the car. I purchased the "Head Swap Gasket Kit" from thunderracing. Comes with all the gaskets needed, including felpro 1406 header gaskets.

Make sure to chase those head bolt threads in the block. I'm putting ARP head bolts in with ARP thread sealant, so far working out great. I should have it all back together today.

I have access to a shop with a tw-post lift. Would you guys recommend dropping the engine for a head swap?

Sure, it would be a little bit easier, but to me seems like a waste of time.

did you have any issues with those gaskets because they are for steel head engines and usually those gaskets will tear up a alum head. unless its a composite gasket. what type of gasket was it if you remember or how it was made.
i just wanted to ask since you run them dunno if you have takin them off since.
