scanmaster=awesome! now code 36....
cool little tool that scanmaster is! I was drivin through our backroads when the SES light came on. cycled through the scanmaster's dtc and it showed a 36. Is it the failing optispark code? How long do you think I can drive my Z till it shuts down? Has anyone recieved the MSD parts yet? might aswell upgrade parts and my water pump too. would you recomend the mezire pump for a daily driver or stick to a conventional one?
Wether the MSD parts are an upgrade remains to be seen, I mean the stock cap and rotor are pretty good(ever run an HEI cap and rotor for 100K+, didn't think so) and nobody has recieved the MSD parts to compare yet, plus these parts will not fix a resolution issue anyway since they are only cap and rotor not the electronics. If a cap and rotor change is in order then the MSD stuff is worth a shot since it is comparable in price to the other cap and rotor kits, but to blindly call it an upgrade at this stage is premature especially given the decent track record of the stock parts.
i have learned from my recent experiences that the high and low res codes can come from faulty wiring/connections....i was having a breakup problem in my 95 z28 and i pulled a Code 16 from the PCM.....i pulled the connector out of the optical sensor and found oil,antifreeze and gunk built up in the connetor....i took an airhose and blew it out and the car has ran great ever since, with no codes....please, if you get problems or trouble codes dont be a parts replacer and assume that parts or bad when wiring can be a likely issue, especially in a 10 year old car...there are simple tests with a multimeter that are described on the internet in several places that will help you determine wiring faults...save yourself money and heartache by diagnosing problems from all angles, not just replacing parts till its fixed.
