Default Just bought a Delteq

I just purchased a Delteq cuz Saturday I figured out my optispark was probably dead. Been driving it and the last time it just didn't do anything. No symptoms or anything. Would not spark at all. We put a plug on the coil wire and got spark but when we pulled the wire off the #1 cylinder didn't get anything. So I'm having a Delteq overnighted so maybe I can hit the Rod Run in Piegon Forge this weekend. I realize it might not work cuz my optical, low voltage part may be bad. Has anyone had any problems with the optical portion going bad? What are some of the causes of the optical portion going bad? Can I get the optical portion new from GM without the cap and rotor? The Delteq dealer told me most customers he has had with strokers couldn't get a couple weeks out of their optis. I had 5000 miles on my new cap and rotor and remanufactured optical before this.

you cannot get an optical sensor, but...you can get a new complete opti and use the new optical sensor and old cap/rotor as a cover for it, leaving the new cap/rotor available for sale....im sure you could get $100 of your money back like that at least....anyhow, if you optical sensor is dead, you will get a SES code 99% of the time....plus if your optical sensor was dead, you would not have spark at the coil wire...good luck...btw, where you at in kentucky? im in lexington

Yeah I thought about that (using the old cap and rotor for a cover and selling the new). Then I thought maybe I could possibly get a Dynaspark optical by itself cuz they sell component parts. That way I get the best of both worlds! I don't know much about our electrical systems so I didn't know about the optical being a factor in coil spark. I'm in Lexington too, for the time being anyway. I'm at school at UK and I graduate in four weeks. After that, I have no clue.....

Thanks bud. Wish I had about 12.5:1 CR though. I talked to my friends at home this morning and they said the car runs! One of them is gonna drive it to Piegon Forge for the Rod Run and I'm gonna meet them down there. I still need a little tuning but I think the big **** is took care of. Obviously the optical was ok.
