the "Opti" is our distributor. It's located behind the waterpump and damper.

Mine just went out this weekend and I have 145K on it. If you do end up replacing switch to the vented opti, they are more dependable, thats what Im doing

Some of the opti units last longer than others. Usually the cap and rotor go bad sometimes the optical sensor will die. I had 74k on mine when I put a msd cap and rotor on for pm. THe stock one was getting rough around the edges. If you like your mustang you can always chunk an lt-1 and 4l60-e or a stick into your pony and it will run like a bat out of hell. I have worked on a few but I believe the mustang has a weight advantage over the f-bod.

Opti Sparks can last a long time...as long as you don't get them wet. My bro had to replace his stock opti at 130,000 miles because he was washing the engine compartment and get the optispark wet. Water kills them. -Matt

mine has been wet a few times, but I pulled the rubber hoses off of the bottom and blew it with compressed air and it has been fine each time. I think when I pull it for the cam install I willrun a bead on silicone around the outside and try to seal it better. The install sucks the first time but after a couple of times doing it you will have it down to a couple of hours.

by looking at the printout, and because i have done it too. it shows you what to do. It takes longer then 45 mins. you have to drain the coolent, remove the water pump, remove the pully, also any wires and houses that conact witch will drain at everyone you take off.. once you get to the opti there are marks that show you how to line it up, and how to line up the pulley and shaft. it will take you a while on your own. so will an elec water pump witch I also rebuilt the cam driven one to free up HP

bets thing to do is take off the right lower hose on waterpump off first and put a bucket dthe wpump to catch it all....then take something to prop up the hose so it doesnt drain out...I just pulled my balancer off then the opti came right out put new one in...make sure you tape all the spark plug wires and put which one went to which opti port so u dont have to follow em to the plugs. Also the opti has which cylinder wire is which on it if u look real closely...
