LT1 clutch help
Hey guys, I recently bought my first muscle car, a 97 Z28. The car is in awesome shape, but the clutch is much different than any other clutch I have driven before. The guy I bought it from is a friend of mine and he says that it's normal. The problem is that the clutch travels 99% of the way up before it engages and catches 1st gear, or any gear for that matter. The clutch does not slip at all and never comes out of gear, but it takes forever for the clutch to engage. I checked and the fluid level is fine.
I had a somewhat similar problem in my bimmer and I just replaced the slave cylinder and all was well. Is this probably the same problem in the Z? Or is the clutch just going to fail on me and I need to replace the whole clutch?
I really appreciate any help as I am new to the whole V8 scene.
On a side note I had the biggest grin on my face all day when I bought the car. I have never had so much power and I am now addicted like all my freinds are! Can't wait to start modding my LT1!

I have a 94Z and my clutch grabs really high too. Its got 111k miles on it. Every one of my friends feals like they have to point that out to be, but just like yours mine never slips and grabs fine. I suppose maybe you could try replacing the slave or master cylinder but I always just said who cares where it grabs as long as it dosent slip.
Mines got 101k miles on it. That is very reassuring to hear that, how long has yours lasted so far......I'm just worried that I'm going to be stranded, but it doesn't slip at all. Maybe I am just worrying too much.
okay some problems that could be causing this....air in the system...bleed the hydraulics...that will take care of some slack...also the master/slave cylinder might need to be replaced. If you do a clutch they need to be replaced anyways so you might as well try it. Also if the clutch isnt slipping or chattering I think you might be ok.

I bought my car up near Peachtree Ga with about 69 on the clock....Not long after i got it i did all of the boltons and a cc305 w/1.6rr and longtubes etc. I banged on it pretty hard and the clutch started slipping around 100 k or so, and i finally replaced it around 110k.

Im not sure if it was the original clutch or not but i believe it is. The car was in great shape and was driven by a women(she even had glitter on the shifter **** which had to go) so im sure it was easy on it.
