Default Any ideas fellas?

Ok, eventually I want to get my LT1 completley re-done.

I haven't done anything internally its just mostly bolt ons, but I have come to that point where theres nothing else to do but go internal. So far what I have done, SLP cold air intake, mezier elec. water pump, NGK-TR55's, MSD 8.5 wires, Pacesetter headers, Y-pipe, Cut out, Yank 3000 Stall, upgraded from 2.73 gears to 3.42's, I've had the car tuned at CAM got all the crap off that I didn't need like emissions, air pump, all the other stuff is suspension, BMR lower control arms, SLP strut tower brace, SLP sub-frames, KYB adjustable shocks (rear only), frount sway bar is dissconnected still on the car though, think thats about it, I want to put QA1's all the way around, and get some BMR relocations brackets, an adjustable pan hard rod, drive shaft saftey loop, better cover for the rear among other things.

I am going to need a rebuilt tranny as the stock one is still in it at 148,000 miles. I've taken good care of the car, prolly why its lasted so long.

What I need to know:

What kind of built transmission do I need to hold up to or about 400 hp and whatever the torque will be at the wheels.

What I can do to the engine to get up to or at least 400 hp at the wheels.

What kinda budget I'm looking at cost wise to complete this task.

I know I will need a 12-bolt as well. I want to go N/A at first, maybe get the engine capable for nitrous use, but not at first. Good sticky tires will be a must, and a line lock, maybe a shift kit?

I know that the car will not be exactly streetable after this, but I would like to keep it semi-streetable, I don't want an all out drag car ya know? Maybe 350-400hp at the wheels is what I'm looking for. Hopfully this isn't going to break the bank, I would like to run mid-low 12's on motor to start off with. Maybe high 11's on spray?

I already know who I'm going to get to do the work and tuning for the car, just wanted to get a solid estimated price on parts and all so I know what I'm looking at.

Thanks in advance!

call jeff back up at CAM and have him spec you out a cam. you'll need a set of heads to get that kind of power at the wheels, so depending on how big you wanna go will determine your budget. i'd say you're looking at at least 6 grand for all the stuff you talked about doing. but theres a lot of variability.

What your planning on doing to your car is what I'm about to complete for mine. I don't really know the price for a rebuild trany, but if your going to rebuild it, it'd be stupid not to put a shift-kit in there.

You need to decide how much your planning to spray it. Either way it'd be best to get a really nice port job on the heads or better yet just get new ones. You don't really need to go with the solid roller cam but that's really your choice. Injector well be a must when your spraying it but a high-flow fuel pump should be enough when your doing N/A.

If your going for a big shot, your going to need a cam that's made for it and a complete forged bottom-end. If you do it this way your N/A #'s well not be as high, do to the cam. But this kinda cam is almost a must with a big shot. And a really nice tune and timing retard is a must when going this way.

If your only planning on spraying a small shot, you can reuse your crank if it's good shape. But still better getting forged pistons and rods. You can also go with a cam that can make more N/A power this way.

I went with the big shot way, forged bottom-end, custom-grinded cam, ported LT1 heads, etc etc. I'm going to run N/A for about 4 or 5 months. I'm doing about 80% of the work myself, and without the nitrous kit I'm around 5-6 grand already.

And like said above it's really hard to tell you how much it's going to cost if your getting someone else to do all the work. Your best bet is to shop around for the parts to get the best deals.

Oh, and with a 12 bolt, slicks, and all the other stuff you can probly pull high 11s-low 12s N/A. And depending on how much you spray you could be in the high 10s.

Thanks for the advice, Honestly I'd rather do all the work myself, I really want to learn how to do all of it. I wish I could just stay up at CAM with Jeff and just help work on the car, but then again I don't need to loose my job either ya know?

I have talked with Jeff on this matter when I was up there a few months ago, he said roughly I might be looking at 8-10 grand. It is hard to say, you wount know the total cost until you get into it. Alabama really doesn't have a decent machine shop that I know of, and I don't really trust the people around here anyways, friend had his machined in Birmingham and has had problems ever since. Probably fault on both sides. Anyways all I'm saying is I want to do this right the first time. I'm going to think on this more as I don't exactly have the money right now, just getting some ideas.

Thanks again!
