Default LT1 Problems

I've heard a lot about how LT1's start to have a lot of problems, and my friend is looking into getting one, and wants to know what the most commons problems are, and why they have these problem. As Much Help as Possible would be great.

Thanks
- Jeremy

An LT1 is not a problematic motor. The most common "problem" is the opti-spark distributer. Depending on the milage of the car, the opti-spark should be budgeted for. I call this a "problem" because people seem to forgot, that distributers are a wearing part. Id like to see a points type one last 130,000 miles. But with the design being front mounted, cam dowel driven it is placed right below the water pump. It also ironically happens that it is coolant sensitive. Get my drift? Another common problem is the rear intake oil leak. Again, another quick fix. Swap in some new gaskets, and silicone your good to go. Total time involved for competant wrench, about 1-1.5 hours. Those are the two biggest things.

For f-bodies in general, there is the 10 bolt rear end, which is a hole other story that i wont get involved in.

Yea i know waht your talking about, about the oil leak, my brothers friend had a fully bolted/ 150 shot, 95 T/A 6spd, and one time he got on it and a lot of the oil sprayed out everywhere , they threw it on the trailor and some oil was still leaking out.

The oil leak is peak of is nowhere near that bad. The intake leaks at the back of the block. Where it is siliconed. Couple drops here and there.
