2 1/2" or 3" exhaust?
2 1/2" or 3" exhaust? Well, I'm heading over to the local muffler shop tomorrow to fix my gutted cat problem. I was wondering about my entire piping under that car. Should I upgrade to a larger diameter or keep what I have (stock). I know cars can be touchy about exhaust diameter and backpressure.
What would everyone suggest for me? Would it help or hurt me if I go larger?

I have never run a true dual setup on an LT1, but I imagine a 2.5" would suit you fine for a naturally aspirated setup.

Dont waste your money having your muffler shop rebuilding you a 3" system. Just buy a catback exhaust.

If this is the case, just go with an aftermarket 3", preferably stainless steel.
I have had shorties/catback, shorties and muffler in the cat location dumping, LT's/duals over the axle, LT duals/bullets dumping, LTs/duals Aerochambers before the axle, I have a bunch of exhaust.
not one picked up MPH on my 355 LT4H/I HOT cam car, tuning did more for me.
SO, on this 97 I went with a quiet sound that is pleasing, I picked it up with a Loudmouth on it so I had the shop put in a Hooker Aerochamber muffler in the stock location and have one exit pipe at the rear bumper tucked up. and from the results I would say it is not hurting anything....
not one picked up MPH on my 355 LT4H/I HOT cam car, tuning did more for me.

Man our cars have so much low end torque already, we can afford to lose 10 lbs. of it. When you put long tubes on you lose some low end torque but gain tremendous hp in the mid-high RPMs. I have a full 3" system, from the collectors back, works great
