GM performance Parts sells the intake manifold you need to convert it to carb, once thats done you can put a SBC distributor on it

Fuel injection is the expensive route but it's more reliable. You'll have to have the manifold, throttle body, air cleaner, injectors, rails, optispark, computer, and wiring harness. Could probably piece it together on Ebay for a decent price. With carb, it's just the manifold, the carb, and HEI. A new opti (new is the best route on those things) by itself is 230-390 (depending on year and supplier). If you got the money, I say go for the injection, but carb is simpler, and less expensive.

IMO the LT1 is nothing without the injection. You would be just as well served with a set of Vortec heads on a gen1 motor which would allow you to keep the mechanical fuel pump setup already in the truck. If those aluminum heads are 95 or older then the Vortecs will outflow them too as the Vortecs ports are copies of the iron LT1 heads just put in standard coolant flow heads.
