High Flow Cat
not having a cat is tech.. illeg. but the question is will you get introuble for it??? I've called my local police dept. and done some other reseach and although it's illegal it's not inforce.. therefor I have no cat... So I dont' see a purpose in spending the money on a "higher flowing" cat if it's vilolating your emissions laws, cuz you'll have to replace it... then If you dont' have to worry about emissions then why worry about a cat at all anyways??? why spend the money on something that is reducing HP when you could get the same if not better results for much much less.

I live in NY, kinda near syracuse.
Yes it is illegal and I can get in trouble, but I do not have to pass a smog test. NY state just changed their emissions laws so im not completely sure what they are exactly for my area, but I do know that since my car is pre-96 I do not have to pass the sniffer test to get an inspection. Its not very strict around here at all, no where near long island, california, ect. I just gutted it cause it was easier/cheaper and getting caught is a long shot given that it still looks like my car has a cat. The only way to find out would be to take it off to see if its gutted and I doubt anyone around here cares enough to do that.
Every place has different ways of enforcing it as well, for example, I'm told the NYS troopers were/are planning on, somthing along the lines of, setting up random road blocks with mirrors on their shoes, so to speak, checking to see if your car has a cat. Thats just what I've been told though, I've neither seen or heard of anything like this happening though.
I have seen more than half of the people in my area who did inspections, stop because of the new testing procedures and requirements. I really dont know too many details about it though.
