Default lt1 miss

Ok guys heres the deal, I just got this 94 t/a and it had a very bad miss when I got it and the previous owner drove it around like that. He talked to some people and they told him it was probly the opti. Well that wouldnt be a problem. So I get it to the house and start tearing it apart and find that number 5 doesnt even have a plug wire on it. So I put a new plug in it (cause it was black and full of carbon and fuel), and a wire and fired it up. Well it was a whole lot better but still had a miss to it. And it had a pretty bad exhaust leak. I had a set of long tubes laying around so I desided to put them on while I was at it. Come to find out the whole drivers bank was fould out. I think number 7 was not that bad but 1,3, and 5 were just all gouped up. Oil and water look good. No smoking at all. So no real signs of a head gasket. I just put the long tubes on and changed all plugs and wires. Well my question is; Will it feel like it is missing with open headers and no O2's hooked up at all? I just wanted to see if I had fixed it before comletely finishing it. I didnt run it long, but it seems to idle fine but doesnt rap up good. It feels like it still has a miss when giving it fuel. Im just hopeing this is cause of no O2's and not burnt valves or something.

Sorry for the long post but any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks
Billy

I, too, had a miss I could never find. I was about to pull what little hair I keep out. After extensive research, I found out about EGR problems. I pulled the vacuum off my EGR valve and the car ran like a champ. I suggest you try the same. If you pull the hose and your car runs good, that's the culprit. If you don't replace it fairly quickly though, you will get your SES light.

On a little side note...I did a little further research, and found 96 models had a bulletin on the EGR valves and would replace it as long as it was under 10 years, 100K miles. My car was at 98,000 and I got it replaced for free .

Hmmmm this makes me think a little more. I did take the stainless plate off the egr tube that is in the back of the intake and weld it up, cause my headers dont have egr. I just threw things back together to fire it up, but didnt unplug any egr electrical stuff. Maybe this is the problem. Thanks for the info I cant waight to get off and check it out.
