Default Going 700R4, tips?

I've destroyed my T56 and clutch so I am going auto now. I'm hoping to get a core cheap and have it built up. Are the dimensions the same on all years? I don't want to get one and the shifter location be off 6". Anything else?

My tip would be to go 4L60E all the hard parts are interchangable with the 700R4 and the pcm control will make for better consistance tunability and drivability. Everyone blames the pcm for the tranny failures becomming more common on the 94+ cars ignoring the fact that in the same year power output increased which would have hurt the tranny more than the pcm control. There is one area where it can be benificial to take control away from the tranny and that is line pressure. Transgo makes a kit to retrofit vacuum modulation into the L460E this responds faster than the pcm can which makes the tranny last a bit longer and respond more quickly the throttle inputs.

I've found an already built 700R4 for $170 (my cost, a guy owes a friend a favor and he owes me money, yada yada). I just have to have it gone through and replace the clutches in 3rd gear. I assume otherwise I'm good to go.
