idle problems
idle and flooding problems I just finshed build engine and tranny rebuild and now the car has a little trouble idling and seems to be flooding out. I have open headers right now, still trying to work the kinks out. Any suggestions?

Stock tune? It could be so rich it can't idle.
N/M, I see you have a PCM forless tune. Still sounds like a tuning issue to me. How's your fuel pressure? What about your regulator? If its broken you'll get full 43.5psi even at idle and it will flood out.

My fuel pressure was 35 psi with the key on. And it was 39 psi when the car was idling. As the car started to die it jumped up to 45 psi. As I feathered the gas to smooth it back out it came back down to 39 psi. Does this mean my FPR is going out or is out?

It probably wouldn't hurt to get an adjustable fuel pressure regualtor for a built motor anyway. If you plan on bigger mods in the future, you can tailor your fuel if you need to. I replaced mine and it seemed to help my highway mileage (gained like 7 mpg) and it didn't smoke or load up anymore. It was always puzzling cuz the pressure appeared to be ok. Also, if you're running open headers right now (if your O2's are behind the headers) it could be throwing the fueling off because they're not getting accurate data. If you are in fact running the car without the O2's properly installed, unplug them so the car will stay in open loop and try running it again.
Okay I replaced the fuel pressure regulator and now the psi readings seem to be within spec. But she still seems to be flooding and hard to keep idling sometimes. Sometimes she idles smooth. I tried to take it down the road and I hard to feather the gas, also when feathering the gas it would cut out and die. Any ideas???

Verdad Gallardo Still having idle issues!!! After replacing the FPR and making sure I had no vacuum leaks. I still have issues. When I crank the car up it idles and runs good then after a few minutes it starts acting up. Has a rough idle and starts cutting out and eventually dying. Going down the road you can't keep it running either. Questions
1. Could it have learned the wrong idle? My air intake elbow dosen't have the silentcer tube, I had it closed off the best I could but some air was getting by.
2. Could the plugs be fouled bad enough to cause problems.
Up for any suggestions! I'm getting disgusted with it. Need some help.

I bought a OBD I scanner from Orielly's yestarday and it didn't work on my car. When I pluged it in it made the light go away, but nothing else happened. I thought my car was OBD I. Any suggestions as to why it woudn't work? I also changed out my plugs. My old ones were only in there for about 2 weeks and they all looked fouled. I haven't had the car running long enough to tell if this made a difference yet. But my light is still on in the dash.

your car is OBD1 and your problem sounds like the opti to me. my car did the same thing the last time it went out.
if you bought a scan tool you should be able to view the trouble codes, how much did the scanner cost? OBD1 scanners are very expensive still for the good ones that will actually tell you the codes rather than just turn off the light.

idling rough and cutting out Would a bad coolant sensor cause my car to idle rough and eventually cut out, choke down. It only does this after the car warms up. I put a new one in the head and in the water pump.

It's possible, but I would not consider this a ECT fault. Instead sounds more like an exhaust leak or bad 02 along with a ton of other possible causes. Check for codes, check for obvious things and see if you can get a log of the data.
I just finished replacing the water temp sensor and the electrical plug end in the water pump. No change..... Still stumbles and misses, acts like its flooding out. I wanted to try and do this myself but I guess I will have to take it to a shop.
I just replaced the IAT and still the same thing. Runs great till it gets warm. Can someone explain to me how my O2's work? Start from the begining because I have no clue. Thanks

They read the amount of oxygen in the exhaust stream. Depending on the amount of 02 in teh stream will change the amount of voltage that the 02's send to the computer. This will in turn effect the fuel adaptives to maintain correct fuel ratio. If there is a problem the 02's can send teh wrong info to the computer and cause issues. Only way to know if it's a problem is with a scan.

Problem maybe solved Well as you know I have been having idle issues and car wouldn't stay running well I unpluged my O2 sensors and now she idles fine and doesn't cut out and die. She has be running for about 50 minutes now.
I don't think I would drive the car like that. Doesn't the O2's tell the computer to richen and lean the fuel mixture? Try putting a stock MAF on the car and see if it helps. Have you called Bryan at PCMforless? He might have some insight on your problem.
