Electronic speedo gear question.

Electronic speedo gear question. I got my new 700R4 in the other day and it had the wrong speedo sensor and tailshaft housing. Long story short, I got the right tailshaft and sensor. So I've changed the gear, but I had to install it with a steel punch and a hammer. I put a few boogers on the teeth and was wondering how true they had to be to get an accurate signal. They're all still intact, just got a couple with spots on them. I'm thinking it's ok but man it would suck for my speedo not work after getting it all installed.
