Default Turbo Headers?

Hi Guys, I've come across a minor setback. I am twin turbocharging a 383 stroker that is going into an 85' Firebird. I need a pair of turbo headers, but a decent pair cost around $1,000+ I was wondering if a pair of shorty's headers flipped up-side down would work, if I cut off where they bolt onto the exhaust pipe and welded flanges on? Hood clearance isn't an issue, I'll probably do without the hood at first. If you can help I would appreciate it.

Out of curiousity, why are you using twin turbos? The cost will be much higher and the benefits nill over a single-turbo. A 6 liter V8 has plenty of exhaust to avoid spin up delays. If you haven't read it already, check out Corky Bell's book on turbocharging... awesome read for any enthusiast.

As for the headers... can't really help you there. I know many single-turbo people use a shorty header for the passenger side and then connect the cross-over pipe behind the engine to a custom turbo header/housing on the driver's side.

For twin turbos (assuming an independant 1-turbo-per-bank) I'd imagine you'll have to go with a custom header of some sort... most likely mild steel as a result. Make sure you get them ceramic coated and find some heat shielding to keep the engine bay temps in check. Good luck... lets us know how it turns out!
