Default Cam pin switch 94 to 97 Z28

I recently bought a motor from a guy that had a 94 Z28 he told me that I would have to change the Dowel pin from my stock cam to the cam that the motor has to make it work right with the opti from a 97 Camaro. He said that the pin from a 94 Camaro wouldn't work because the pin was to short. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, 1sicss

Yes on a 94 a shorter dowel pin is used because it only goes through the cam gear, and the cam gear has a dowel that turns the opti. On the 97 the longer dowl must be used becasue it has to got threw the cam gear and into the back of the opti. Comp has some for the lt's or a machine shop should have some just ask for the long ones. I had to do the same thing, since i am running a new timing cover and opti.
