Default timing chain fitment

Alright guys I just ordered a cranes cam double roller timing chain set (cam and crank gears included) for my 1994 lt1 camaro z28. I was just wondering if they're would be any clearance issues or fitment adjustments I might have to make to get the timing chain to fit correctly. Didn't know if it were like the ls1 and just go right on....any help on this topic is quite appreciated.

I had to cancel the order on the cranes cam timing chain set because of availability....I ordered another double roller timing chain set made by cloyes...found it on summit's site for about the same price...no one has any idea about the fitment? I am just wondering cause surprises arent needed at this point in the build...

You have, or are going with, the vented opti and 95+ timing cover, right? Otherwise, the Cloyes isnt going to work. Also, I believe youre going to need an Electic waterpump too.

Supposedly you can modify the current timing cover to accomodate your double roller. How they do it I don't know. I went the cheap route and bought a used one already modified to accept the double roller.

jninan2k2 - Unless that chain set has a cam gear with keyway cut for your splined opti drive, it will never work with your non-vented opti.

Well like I said I went to summitracing.com looked up timing chains narrowed it down to my exact year/make/model and it said it would fit so I am going by that....also roughneck427 let me know as soon as you have it done if it worked or not...the cam and all is expected to go in very soon...

Thanks,
Jacob

Jacob, have you done or do you plan on doing a vented opti swap(opti, harness, and 95+ timing cover)? Do you have an electric waterpump? These are issues that you are going to have to deal with when running a double roller chain on a 94 LT1.

well got my cam in this weekend and put in my double roller chain set up along with my electric waterpump the timing cover needed a little of clearancing mostly where the track of the chain was the little rivets that hold the chain together slightly rubed the cover i used a coarse 3m pad on my air operated gasket cleaner and removed what i needed

It's my understanding that nobody makes a double roller with the right keyway for a non vented opti drive shaft. That was the case 2 years ago, when I did the conversion to vented opti/double roller/elec water pump. I don't think that's changed since then, but I may be wrong... I really think most vendors just show the same numbers for all lt1 chains, regardless if it's a 92-94 or a 95-97. I'd be interested to hear if you receive one that actually works for your non-vented opti - what p/n did you order???

I ended up just cancelling the order for the cloyes double roller and got a lt4 chain instead. I went back to the summit site and it stated in requirements that a elec. water pump was required...I don't feel like buying a pump that isnt going to last so I stuck with that.
