Is the car stock right now? If it is, Id suggest the bolt-ons before you install a cam. Then you know youre getting the full potential out of the cam. Everyone has their own opinion on what exhaust is the best and I just happen to like the Hooker Aerochamber catback. Im running it on my black Z28. Great sound with stock manifolds and sounds even better with headers. Also, if your car a manual or automatic? An automatic car might have some driveabilty issues with the stock stall converter and a bigger cam. I didnt have a problem with mine but I upgraded to a 3500 stall anyways and wouldnt go back if you paid me. Give us a lil more info on to what your exact setup(mods, transmission, how many miles, etc.) is right now and also what your goal is for the car and a more exact answer can be given.

my car is a standard, i plan on gettin motor rebuilt because this one has 180000 miles and i dont know how much the motor can handle a cam and upgrades. the car appears to be stock except for the racin clutch. what kind of bolt ons would be good i just want the car to be quick enough to compete with the newer trans ams.

Yep, rebuild that before you do a cam.

I'd recommend a Lloyd Elliot stage one grind (www.eportworks.com) or a comp cams 305. Both are streetable and make good power, can also pass emissions.
