Default problems with new car, bogging down

got a 96 t/a and previous owner said it was having some prblems with the egr but he also told me all of it was deleted out...anyways the car was running fine then just quit....you go to crank it and it does nothing but trys to turn over..NO FIRE....if you gas it it will halfway run, smoking like hell, choppy then bogg itself down..if you try to ease out of the clutch it will bogg down...any ideas..i need to get this thing off the side of the road!!!

that could be many different things.

first thing i would look at though would be the maf connection.

I had a similar problem with mine...was running like **** with similar problems that you described. In the end it was a $8 part from O'Reilly. I believe it was the coolant temperature sensor (the one that mounts on the water pump) anyway, I replaced the connector and it solved my problem. Good luck

It sounds like the opti. When 1 of my optis went out, it just died on the freeway. When I got it in the garage at home, it would just crank but never turn over. If I applied some throttle, it would kind of start, and chug a bit, then die again, all the while the garage was being filled with white smoke.

try messing with the connector and see if it does anything different. i broke a wire loose on mine and it would still read just not correctly.

Mine did the exact same this past spring. Ran like poop, smoked like hell, hard to start, and stalled when I put it in gear. Ended up being bad gas. Put a 5 gallon container of Premium, ran like a raped ape!

Could be condensation from in the tank at the gas station(in ground). Especially being that there has been a few very cold nights, atleast here there has been. Its possible, not likely, but very possible. There is a gas station by me that I wont go to because my car almost always runs like crap on their gas, especially when its cold at night. Good luck.

seems like it would be something in the wiring harness if it runs fine without the maf plugged in, and replacing the maf didnt help.

i'd get a scan tool and see waht the MAF is doing and for now leave the MAF unplugged and let the car run in speed density mode.

My bet would be the fuel pressure regulator.
