Default 383 Specs

Hi guys i am looking at buying a 383 from a friend. i am wanting to know if the engine will have the power i am looking for. i am wanting 400+ rwhp and eventualy i want to run boost. would the cam and the rest of the specs be what i am looking for.

-JE Fitted Rings
-Eagle SIR Forged Rods
-Eagle 3.75" Stroke Nod. Iron Crank
-Ported and Polished Aluminum Heads
-Ferrea 2.00 intake valves
-Ferrea 1.56 exhaust valves

-Fully Machined Block (Including clearincing for the stroker crank, align hone, 3 angle valve job, hot tanked, etc.)

IMO cam might be small, but everything else looks great.

Couple question here:
1)What is the compression ratio?
2)What do the heads flow?
3)The comp 503 is a decent stock CID cam
5)What rockers are on the car? (w/1.6 lift increases to .536/.544)

If you are planning on running FI the motor needs to be built with that in mind. Also what is the final HP levels you want the car to reach. Depending upon what you want out of the motor you might have to change pistons and go with a forged crank.

I have just installed a very similar combination in my car with the exception of headers. Your signature shows long tubes and I have only the 97 style short tube headers on my car. I would also recommend a 1.6 roller rocker with your setup as the more lift the better. I haven't had mine to the dyno yet as it has only been on the road for a very short time but the car pulls very hard from off idle on up. I think with a good tune and the 1.6 rockers and the longtube headers that your combination will get you to the 400rwhp goal or very close to it providing the heads are good.

The camshaft is a bit small for a 383 but it still works very well. The cylinder heads make a big difference and will determine how much power you can make. I have the LE2 heads that flow 270/190 @ .600" lift with the larger 2.00/1.56 Ferrea valves.

Golen Engine Service uses the same camshaft in there 400hp/464tq 383 longblock and that is only with stock valves and some mild porting and cleaning of the heads. Keep in mind that the horsepower numbers are not at the rear wheels but at the crank.

I also have 4.10's and an M6 and if you are planning on doing a lot of racing at the track or racing from a dig on the street then you are going to want to change the rear gear to at least a 3.73 if not 3.42. The rear tires are going to be able to be smoked on command in 1st or 2nd gear at just about any rpm. I am saving up for a 12bolt but until then my Nittos are staying in the garage. Hope this info helps.
