Hotcam to CC306

Hotcam to CC306 Mods are in Sig. I have only had the hotcam for about 3000 miles. Would I see a decent gain by going to the CC306? I know my valvetrain can handle it. How much HP do you think I am running now and what do you think it would be if I switched cams? etc..etc..etc in my sig is computer tuning and some visual upgrades.

A cam is a vital part of a motor. its the Brains of the motor. Definitly do some more research on the subject. When you start talkin cc306, gm847, and some serious custom grinds. This is where you need to decide what kind of power band you want. Also does your other mods support the cam. If you got a stock *** motor and toss just a cc306 in, I know this to be a fact it will under perform like you wouldnt beleive.
Just dont be a "bottom of the page" cam guy. Research, there are some really good grinds out there, that are better than a hot cam but may not be as nutty as a gm847

the gm 847 actually isnt crazy at all. the duration numbers are moderate, the lift numbers are acceptable for a hydraulic roller. Yes it will make power to 6400 or so, depending on heads, but it will still out perform the hotcam all the way around, and less aggressive cams wont touch a gm847 size cam up top. its all in the tuning. Guess what cam is sitting on my workbench ready to go back in the car when it gets back together...
Yea same here, I have a hotcam in my 383 (due to emissions) but I worked closely with Bret Bauer and he grinded a NICE custom grind that will pass emissions with a simple rocker swap, and still kick *** all around when it has the normal rockers on her.
Since he has a manual its less of an issue but it has been proven that the GM847 in a auto LOVES a high stall. I am talking in the 4000rpm range. Emissions and stall req. steered me away from it.
But this custom grind will do its job. I suggest checking it out!

I went with the hotcam and shorties due to emmision because I wasn't sure where I was going to live. Well now that I bought a house in iowa I can play with those things alil more. Thanks for all the info. Maybe I will make this a good winter project.
im also considering switching to a 306, i like the way my hotcam performs with my mods, its a nice little cam, but i want a larger lope and more power than what the hotcam can give me, with my mods in sig, will it be safe to add the 306? will i see a noticeable gain? thanks!
I switched from the Hotcam to the 306 and I like the performance for sure. The Hotcam is an awesome all around daily driver setup but for a weekend street/strip car the CC306 is a beter choice. The cam really responds well to n2o also. Look at the times in my sig run with CC306 and ported LT1 castings. Later Clint

So will my setup be able to handle the cc306 or a custom grind comparable to it? Someone mentioned new springs. Will my current springs handle it? I have the LT4 springs. I have hardened pushrods so thats not a problem either. Thanks for all the help! I appreciate it.

What is the powerband of the gm847? This car is not going to be my daily driver anymore but would still like it to be decent on the street because I enjoy driving it. I won't have to drive it to work and back anymore. Thanks again for all the info!

You're LT4 springs will NOT be able to handle the lift of the cc306 and gm847 or any cam with comparable lift. The power band is from right around 3k+-6500+. Alot of this depends on your tune. This cam, with 4.10s and a good dyno tune would be a monster on the street and great at the track to. It will also lope really hard. With a tight bottom end like you have it will be golden. Just as a side note, the cc306 and gm 847 are very similiar, with slightly larger lift and durations on the gm847. It's just my favorite because of price and being readily available.
