With a stockish combo and "known" springs and retainers checking installed height is probably overkill though never a bad idea. Beehives are originally intended for the LSX motors which use a 1.8 installed height the gen1 and gen2 motors like ours use a 1.7 resulting in higher seat pressure and less room before bind unless you do something to address the installed height there are a few options there from locks that can move the retainer up .050" machining heads etc. but you ahve to pay close attention to things like with +.050 locks which in theory will give you a 1.750 installed height they can interfere with SA rockers at higher lifts. So you might consider the tall locks and switching to guideplates and non-SA rockers or might chose to pick the beehives based on the stiffer shorter intalled height pressures. Also consider beehives need less pressure to do their job Vizard has stated 25% less pressure and not a lot of guys will tell him he is wrong about anything smallblock Chevy.
