97 hooker header problem

Default 97 hooker header problem

Hi. I just finished a header install on a 1997 Chevy camaro with the lt1 engine. I installed the hooker shorty headers that use the factory dual cat system to remain smog legal. My number 7 spark plug is less than 1/4 inch away from the header and it has already burned up my brand new MSD spark plug wire boot. If anyone has had this problem or knows how to remedy it, please let me know.

Ditch the shorties, get long tubes with elitesparkplugs.com OTVC wires.

The only way I can see you fixing the problem is mark the spot on the header, remove it, repeatidlly smash that spot with a ball peaned hammer to where you have enough clearance. It also wouldn't be a bad idea to get some boot protectors (fiberglass sleeves).

Try Accell extreme 9000 wires, they have a high temp coating on the boots and have lasted on my car

we had that problem with long tubes so we zip tied the wire to the outer frame

^^^ Holy 3 posts batman. You could probably get away with some fire sleaves for your wires. But like FormulaWS6 said, mark it and hammer in to get some clearance.

With my Delteq wires, I put 5 and 7 around the brake lines to do a sort of over the valve cover style.
