Exclamation Need an opinion.

Im just new to the site. Long fan of F bodies. I now have a 93 z28, auto. Its got 190000 and still going pretty strong haha. Actually it runs great, and body is in mint, im still running 14.3 at the track. All i have is a cutout. I just have a few basic questions. How bad is "slap shifting" for an auto. and also what would you guys suggest doing to rebuild my motor. I just want it back to a little better than stock. But like new. Im not new to this scene. Before I got this I owned a 99 vette, fixed top 6 spd. But due to me being in the AF and just gettin back from over seas and complicatyions with my condo i had to sell it and stick to my daily driver (camaro) any help would be appriciated.

Well $$ is always the key but build a good 355 with some good rods and bolts, forged pistons, heads and cam and you're not in too deep. Of course a good exhaust to exhale it all will be in order. Something I personally would think about doing is converting to mass air. That way when you do all these mods, you don't run into tuning issues. I think all you would need is a PCM, pick that up off Ebay, and the matching harness, and of course the sensor. I don't think that would be too bad of a swap but a flash computer is much easier tuned via the available software. Sending off for chips to be burned and installed is no fun.

I've heard mixed opinions about manual shifting an auto. A reputable tranny builder around here says that manual shifting won't hurt the transmission. He said it's easier on the parts to do it yourself. He also said don't romp it in OD too; downshift to D first.
