Angry Damn Waterpump

I took this week off and today I decided to change the oil in the Z28. I have not driven the car in a while so i wanted to change the oil then take her for a spin. I go to put the jack under the car when I see a small puddle of Antifreeze. I shine the light up under the car and sure enough, just as I suspected. The weep hole in the water pump was leaking Well, I changed the oil and cranked the car up just to keep it lubed up. It ran like ***. I think the opti might be going out too. Well, needless to say I will be working out all of the bugs on the car this winter before I paint it this spring. Anyone know where I can get a new/rebuilt water pump for a decent price?

Yep, this project is not fun. You will find that just about everything is attached to the damn water pump. I'd take the oportunity to go with an electric pump. It will make the car run a lot cooler and give you a small performance gain. The cost is about the same. Just make sure you wire it with a relay using a switched ignition source. I would change the opti while you are in there if you car has more than 70K miles. Or you could just go for the MSD cap and rotor.

Check out this thread. MSd is coming out with a new opti. But it's $500!

With it sitting for so long and the possibility of it getting wet. is it a vented opti? if so, you might could run it a little while and "pull" the wettness out but if it is weeping, that will have to be fixed.

Its a 1997 so yes it has the vented Opti. I'll see if that helps. First thing is to get the new water pump. Man, I really needed to get a new front bumper cover since mine is cracked now, this **** happens.

My local Auto Value store stocks the LT1 waterpump so I imagine with a core you could probably get off for about $70. I myself picked up a CSI waterpump already in the housing on Ebay for $100. Smoothest buy I ever made.

No prob. New ones in Summit are $185. You should get off easy for less than $100.
