I had the same problem with my 98 z28, it was that the key reader in the column wasnt reading my pass II key so it locked everything down and wouldnt even turn over, my mechanic bought the key reader for 60$ and two new keys for 30$ each installed it and she fired right up. The mechanic had to programs the keys and all sorts of difficult bullshit, im glad he knew what he was doing because i sure didnt...Hope this helps your out? By the way does your security light come on???

sounds like ignition switch... but could be other things too.. but the fact is... it is cranking over.. check for spark.

So pull a sparkplug wire... and put a spark plug or screw driver into the wire. the hold it next to a ground and have a friend crank it over... is there a spark?

if the security light is on it is most likely the cylinder is worn out. basically vats thinks somebody is trying to start the car with the wrong key. you can wire in a resistor of the correct value or buy another cylinder and key. in case you didnt know vats kills the ignition when activated.

The security light comes on when you turn the ign to the on position. If it is not blinking then it is not a security problem. If it is blinking then pop the pellet out of the key and cut the two white wires in the orange tubing under the column and hold one wire on each side of the pellet and see if it will start. If it does replace the lock cylinder. The ign switch almost never gives trouble on these cars. Check for s[park fuel, then fuel pressure and go from there.

Vats denies starter and injector pulse. you need to get a noid light and see if the injectors are pulsing during crank. There are just too many things that it can be to guess and get it right. You really need a scanner before you can ever get close to the problem and then post up some data shots.
