Default Plastic fuel tanks

Whats up with these plastic fuel tanks that come on some of the LS1 cars? Will they work in LT1 cars, and how much weight can be saved?

I don't know the answer but I would like a light fuel tank of about 5-6 gallons that fits in the stock location and that works with the stock fill tube. I was told such an animal does not exist.

I believe the plastic fuel tanks came along in 99 and up f-bodies. Only problem with them is if you have an aftermarket exhaust then sometimes the pipe going over the axle can touch it, if its off a little, if that happens it will melt it, but just make sure your pipe doesnt do that. I think you can put them in LT-1 cars but as far as weight difference i have no idea.

This has been debated on the thirdgen.org forums for a while. I know some people have swapped in the plastic tank with no problem for weight savings. I'm not sure how much weight you'll save, but a search through thirdgen.org would find you the info.

Try Speed Inc on the right here. I do believe they have a custom aluminum fuel cell. I believe it to be 10 gallons and fits in the stock location. *Not sure though.*
