A huge problem

You need to losen the whole pan, every bolt front to back, and then remove the front nut and the first couple of bolts on each side....you're going to need to drop the front of the pan about an inch. Then when removing the timing cover you'll have to slowly pry the front of the pan gasket out of the timing cover w/o ripping it off.......if you do rip it off then be prepared for massive leaks unless you drop the pan and replace the whole thing.

It is somewhat tricky to do but possible. I just loosened the front couple of bolts on both sides and the pan dropped enough to get the cover off. Make sure not to rip the gasket though. I made sure to use Permatex all over to help prevent leaking. Haven't had any leaks since I replaced timing cover gasket back in July. Good luck.

Thanks for the words boys. I wasn't aware that the gasket betwixt the pan & cover were part of the pan gasket. I'm used to the older motors where the cover gasket was seperate. I'll be careful. Damm bitch of a job to do out in a ccold NY driveway!
