A4 Z vs M5 'Stang????????? Hey guys its me again. I know this one has been asked a million times, but here goes. My friend ('99 GT 5sp) wants to race me ('95 A4 Z) real bad. Both are stock except for catbacks. Everything else is bone down to airfilters and street radials. He is a M5 and I'm an A4. This prolly gonna be in the 1/8. Any predictions please..... He is dying to know. BTW the kid has never driven a 5sp before this car. Dont factor that in though, I am just interested in how the cars match up. thanks in advance

If you race at an 1/8 mile track, I think you will win. Your car should run anywhere from a 9.1-9.4. A 99 GT with a pretty good driver will go low 9's. This is assuming the 60' is pretty good. Honestly, I don't think the GT will run any better than a 9.5, so I would give you the win since your an A4. (You can't really screw up)
Don't rev it up when you launch from the line. Just flash the converter.
P.S. If you guys race outside of the track, it will be very close. From a roll, I would almost give the win to the GT. Stock manual GT's run a better MPH than A4 LT1's in the quarter...

dont know about that i raced my friends 02 gt back about 6 months ago at the track with my 130k mile A4 96 TA and i killed him in the 1/8 and the quarter mile he would get a better launch but that was because i had a stock convertor and he had the 5M but as soon as we got goin i would pass him and just keep on pullin him till the end of the race (he knew how to drive to)

When I was at the track and it was 100 degrees outside all the mustang GT owners were running 14.3-14.5. I pulled a 14.1 that day.
I've also ran a m5 to my a4 on the highway from 50-90 and we were side by side the whole time. This was when I didn't have any mods except a cutout.

ok, he HAS to be a good driver to really put up some competition, i mean your in an auto and there isnt that much to driving that, so if he isnt good he wont stand a chance, if he is it'll be close

I owned both cars at exactly the same time. Both were completely stock. I had a 99 5speed gt for a short time when I owned my 95 a4 t/a. The gt could not come close at any point in the race except maybe at the starting line, we were neck and neck there. Most gt;s of that era that I've seen stock at the track are running closer to 15.0. Including mine. You guys must have seen some factory freaks. Or the one I had was a pooch.
I killed a 2001 GT 5 speed last week on an "open race" with my '94 t/a A4, we raced from the same speed (about 45mph), it seemed like a tight race... then... I started pulling away... I could hear that 4.6 scream like it was lowered to 2nd gear... I still beat the mudstain for about 4 cars length, then he gave off while I was still pulling away, I got up to about 125mph and started slowing, GT came to the side once more... we hit it on a second race and same result, guys a good driver, he's pulling a 14.5 on the 1/4, I use to run 14.2 before I replaced the opti and timing gears and chain on my 156,000 mileage t/a...... So... I'll say close race on the 1/4... but an easy win on the highway. I gues that msd cap and rotor plus new timing gears and chain did really help.... 
I don't know if this will help but I work with a friend who has a 2000 gt 5speed. In stock form it ran a 14.3 at 96mph and then put a h-pipe and mufflers on to get him a 13.94 at 100. Another guy I work with had a bone stock 97 A4 2.73 z and ran a 14.2 at 98.
It will be who ever gets the launch down. The gt has alot better gearing and the 4.6L has good low and mid range power but no top end. With the auto I would have to say the z28 but from a roll it will be interesting. I raced my friends 2000gt when me and him were both stock from a 40 punch which in a m6 with 3.42's is not a good spot but he jumped up putting his back tire with my front and It took till middle 3rd to catch and 4th to pass him.
