You will definitely want a tranny that can handle the power of a V8, especially the torque of a 383. Your old tranny should bolt up with no problems, at least I think so. Most GM trannys have the same bolt pattern, and can be changed around to different motors.

thanks for the replies. just wondering if there is a difference between a reg. 350 block and the lt1 block. pretty much knew everything i needed for the swap just wanted to make sure i didn't forger anything. i found a wrecked 1995 ta with the lt1 in it and thought about bying it. what all out of the ta would be usable in my swap. thanks

the v6 trans wont mount up and it is a lot more expensive to do that, than just to buy an lt1, you will have to change suspension, and your gears in the back probably won't match up, so look into price for everything before you start. also 350's with a 400 crank are easy to blow so go with a stroker kit. and im pretty sure you have to drop the motor from underneath so have access to a lift.

you'll need a 12 bolt rear end, transmission (T56, 4L60E, TH400, TH350, etc.), LT1 block with a stroker kit, after market heads, might as well do a cam, k member. Also i think you need a pcm right? Thats just an idea of what you need to look into, will run you well over 10K to get it done right.

And yes the motor comes out from the bottom, along with the entire front suspension and brakes and everything, pretty much the entire front 1/4 of the car comes down
