Question Shortys or Mid length headers - '97 LT1 Ram Air

I have a 1997 Trans Am - Ram Air with no modifications, and in the spring, I will do some exhaust work. I'm looking for nice shortys or mid-length headers to put on to fit the stock Y-pipe. Any recommendations?

why do you want to keep the factory y-pipe?
the 96-97 headers arent really that good. most people go with either the 94-95 style or long tubes.

Yea I would actually prefer a new high-flow catted Y-pipe, but I'm having trouble finding one that'll fit the original location with new headers. I have dual cats. Anyway, if I get LT's, I'll have to make a whole new entirely different Y-pipe, and design an entire system, which I simply don't feel like doing. So, what combination do you guys recommend for headers/y-pipe with dual cats? I hear Edelbrock and BBK headers are NOT good. What is the reasoning behind this??

Get the AS&M(Arizona Speed & Marine) headers with the Random Technology Y pipe. It fits the stock locations perfectly. I have no clearance issues with this set up on my 1996 WS6. These headers are mid length. Shorty headers are almost worthless on a stock LT1. This set will also hook up to all of your emissions tubing.
I have had several exhaust setups on my car, to see what worked best for my setup, including Hooker longtubes. The AS&M's made the most power.
