Typical Oil Pressure Hey guys. i got a few questions. whats the typical oil pressure on an LT1, whats the lowest thats still acceptable, and what do you typically get at certain rpm (idle, 2000) I was wondering what is normal for idle, because it seems low at idle. Hopefully I'm not in need of a rebuild. That is not what I need right now. It runs strong though and doesnt use any oil.
my car runs at about 20 psi at idle which is about 900 rpm at operationg temp when i start it when its cold it sits at about 50 psi or somewhere around there and going down the road at about 2000 rpm i can be anywhere from 30-40 psi at operation temp (stock 180 degree thermostat)
that is using mobil 1 10W30 and about 70,000 miles

Well that is exactly what my car has. Just the same. I just hope thats what its supposed to be. 40 @ 2000rpm and 20 or so @ idle. Thanks so much for the reply. I was really starting to get worried. Also, while we're on the topic of oil, what do you think the best oil to run is for an LT1? I was using the half synthetic stuff, but I didnt know if it made a difference, so I switched back to 5w-30.
dont mean to hijack this thread or anything but how many of you experience the mysterious oil pressure drop when you floor it and it gets up into the upper rev range like over 4000 rpm
mine takes a quick dip and then starts building it again but its way down by 30 psi when i would like to see it at about 40-50 psi
as far as the oil you should run, i would use whatever the car has had if its mostly been run with synthetic stick with it, if it generally see's dino oil stay with it and you can whatever brand you like i like mobil 1 10w30 i used to use amsoil 10w40 and i actually have better oil pressure with mobil 10w30
as far as spec for oil pressure the shop manual says
a minimum of
6 psi @ 1000 rpm
18 psi @ 2000 rpm
26 psi @ 4000 rpm
