Default Help, Can 96 Lt1 Fit Into 89 Iroc Z

I was wondering if an 89 Iroc Z would fit a 96 LT1 engine? The only reason I’m putting that engine in the 89 Z is because my car got caught in the flood during Katrina.

The guy who I bought it from just put a Richmond 6speed in there and that thing used to hull a## , I don’t want to give her up or anything THAT’S MY BABY!! But personally, I’ve always wanted a bigger engine in there so now I have the opportunity to put one in and I was wondering what type of mods I will have to do the engine to get it to fit up under there. Will it drop right in with no problems or what? I called a tech person at Thunder Racing and they said that it should fit but would not go into details. But my best buddy is an ASE Certified mechanic and he said I would have to mod the intake and a whole lot of other things before it will fit in there. I plan on putting a LT4 conversion package on the LT1 before I put it into the Iroc.
My grandpa gave me his 96 Roadmaster that was in an accident. It still runs like new, only 60k on it. He just wanted something else after the accident.

Can anyone give me any suggestions on what to do, what to look for, or even if it will or won’t fit! Any answer is better than no answer.

Thank You.

Why sure you can. I converted mine to a GMPP manifold/ Demon carb setup with a Mallory billet distributor. I am using a TH350 transmission. I mounted it to the stock transmission cross member, which set the motor back almost 3", I had to "relax" the firewall but it gives it good weight transfer. And of course the headers didn't want to fit and they, along with the a-arms had to be relaxed upon. I am running a three core radiator from my old 80 Malibu (also relaxed to fit) that just so happened to have a extra plug that I hooked up to the reverse flow water pipe. It takes some patience and a big Hammer, but it wasn't that bad. Good Luck with your project. My motor is a iron headed version of the Cadillac LT1.

It will fit, so will an LS1 motor. The best place to get information on a motor swap is www.thirdgen.org
