Default This might sound very newbie, but.....

I've got oil leaking out my drain plug so I drained it out into a very clean pail with the intent of reusing it but...... If your Mobil 1 is black after <200 miles, then it's safe to assume the engine needs a good flush and the oil isn't worth saving? I had sent for an oil analysis kit that I don't have to pay until I actually get the sample analyzed but I should probably just save my $20, huh? Now to figure out why my oil got so dirty so fast.

Re-use your oil? why? its not that expensive! if you got money for a 9" moser you should have money for new oil.

Well at $5+ a qt. for 7 qts. and then $10+ for a new Mobil 1 oil filter it comes out to over $45. That's $45 I can put somewhere else. The oil has less than 200 miles on it so it's same as new but it seems highly uncommon to me that it's so black after so little use. I just wanted to know if anyone has had a similar experience with Mobil 1 or knows more about its molecular structure that may explain why it turns black.

I managed to dig up some information on the forum at Bobistheoilguy.com and it seems that it will appear more black when it's cold, which is the way I drained it out. I may need to lean out my A/F ratio slightly as it also mentioned combustion byproducts (or lack of combustion in the case of richness). I was having problems with O2's and race gas a while back so that might have a lot to do with it too. I know there's no sludge build up cuz I had to re-silicone my intake awhile back and it was clean then. I think I'm starting to answer my own question, lol........

I know what you're saying but say it was in the pan before and it goes back in the pan, isn't it still in the pan whether I drained it or not? LOL.

Stroker pan my friend. BUT nevermind anyway. I'm going to have to drain it out again--my little "fix" didn't work. I'll have to change the oil now, too much handling. It's leaking through the threads or something.......
