Alternator help!
I have a quick question: got a 94 camaro, originally v6, dropped an LT1 in it and used the v6 alternator in the conversion. now my alternator is dead, and i want to use the 1997 z28 alternator because it puts out 140 amps vs. the v6's 105. hook ups are basically the same, the only thing i have to change is the belt size and drill out the hole for the battery hook up a bit. I dont think that there should be any problem, but it is a 35 amp jump in power, and i really dont want to fry my electrical system... both use the same VR375 voltage regulator, im just double checkin myself before I hook everything up tomarrow night.... Oh, and I am looking for a set of LT1 valve covers and a used opti if anyone knows of one available!
140 Amps means the amount of current draw that the alternator can support uner a full load situation. Your voltage at which the output is maintained is the same regardless of the increase in output amps. Yes it is fine, gm put it there in the first place. Swap it in and you will be good to go.
