Default swapping y pipes

i have been looking to upgrade my y pipe which right now is a stock dual cat 96-97. the car had a set of shorty headers and a B&B catback exhaust when i got it and i am thinking of opening up the y pipe. i have to pass emmissions so that is why i cant go with LT headers. basically i have found a few options for the single cat 94-95 y pipe, but not too much for the dual cat and am wondering what would be involved in swapping from the dual cat to single cat y pipe. i know i would have to get a high flow cat but would they bolt up to the exhaust or is there a lot of things that would have to happen for the single cat y pipe to bolt up. any help would really be appreciated. i also want to get the car sounding even meaner than it does, and this should make it a good bit louder i would think right?

I'm not 100% but I'm pretty sure you can still pass smog with LT's as long as they still have EGR/AIR fittings and you get a y-pipe with cats. That would be the best way to go IMO. Hopefully some one will chime in who has to worry about emmisions......they would know a little better than me.

Technically LT Headers are illegal because they cause the cats to be relocated in a place other than stock. Whenever the cats are in a place other than the stock location, thats illegal. It will still pass the sniffer tho. However, 9/10 people will pass you as long as they see a cat or cats on the car because some people dont care and seriously, they dotn memorize where the cats are on every car.
