Yeah your right. I see alot of guys on here who want to switch from dino oil to synth on highly driven motors, I wouldnt do that...

Anyone else recommend a conventional oil besides Castrol GTX 10w-30, I havent used it before... Looking for something that you guys like.

Edit: I was just looking, Castrol only offers 5W-40 here... What are you other European guys running (conventional)?

I have been running Mobil 1 synthetics in my Stock Eliminator motors with good results. In a test years ago I found that the 0-30 synthetic was a tenth faster than the 20-50 dyno oil that I had been running. I have run Mobil 1 in Veronicas Z-3 and now her SLK350 without any issues (oil changes every 3,000 miles). I think that the true secret to long engine life is frequent oil changes and not too heavy oils.

Good Luck,

Daren

I switched to synthetic two years ago or so on a high mileage motor and then switched right back to regular because my already leaky LT1 started to leak bad.

Too many ignorant but well meaning people responding for that to be of any use.

Guys with 150K+ cop cars that spent untold idling time can say the same thing and all they ever got was bulk 5w-30 dino. Hell they then cam them and continue to have fun.

Thank you so very much for proving my point though.

200K+ on dino is no problem for the vast majority of motors these days.

You have to check the backs of the bottles of 0w-30 Castrol Syntec and look for "made in Germany", the made in America stuff is not the same.

Just put in Mobil 1. KNow one here is going to see any real differences. Be honest, you cannot tell me you see changes in fuel economy or hp or any other crap without scientific studies.
Temperatures, road conditions, weight, tire pressures, and the list goes on to what makes oil an insignificant variable in any equation. Be honest!
Just put it the oil you "feel" is within your budget and because the bottle looks good.

Ok but then again alot of guys dont want to switch to Synthetic oil because of problems such as leakage... So it all depends, best Synthetic oil may be Mobil 1 for some, and others may be searching for a Conventional oil.

UOAs PROVE M1 5w-30 and 10w-30 result in more wear than necessary which you can reduce simply by reaching for the 0w-40 or 5w-40. I am interested in the 5w-30 Truck and SUV I saw at Walmart yesterday that lable had just been used for the 5w-40. M1 is good oil, one of the BITOG guys went 15K on the 5w-30 in his turbo VW and it turned out great, the LT1 just does not have the affinity for that particular oil than many believe it does.

Im pretty sure only certain LT1s came with Mobil 1 from the factory... Not sure if any did actually. If they all did, then I doubt many would go with Conventional.

If my car was in the ~70,000 range Id switch to Synthetic, but like most LT1s on here with over 90,000... I just dont want to experience problems from it. "If its not broken, dont fix it"

Edit: Just found a post by ThirdGen
Well... you can go 2-3 times longer on (good) synthetic oil compared to conventional. All Vettes from the LT1 years and up came from the factory with Mobil 1. So when GM implemented their oil life in the Vette, they setup the calculations for synthetic. The F-bodies came with conventional. Thus GM setup the system for conventional oil for the F-bodies.

More or less that was a marketing thing, but does have to do with the fact that the vette has no oil cooler

Yes, In 1992 GM got rid of the oil cooler, went to Mobil 1 in the LT1 Vettes.

Probably didn't have any damn room. I loathe working in my engine bay as it is. If I had a Vette, oh damn.

Hey 96capricemgr......that's 2 stock Eliminator racers that picked Mobil 1 synthetic 0 w 30. I guess it's still not good enough for you.
