new tc
well the ta is in the shop right now and it's gettin a new rear main seal among other things. so i figured while the transmission is out the i'll get a new tc. lookin at one of the milder ones from b&m. i've heard they aren't as good as the others but i figure anything is better than stock. do these have the lockup and could someone explain to me what the lockup does. if i need a lockup switch where can i get one and about how much are they? all i could stall to last time at the track was about 1500 or so then it pulled through the lights. i only drive the car on weekends and to the track maybe once or twice a year. i'm lookin at the torkmaster 2000 and 2400, which should i go with? http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...0555&langId=-1

lockup is the torque converter clutch locking itself to the converter housing, creating a 1:1 mechanical link between the engine and the transmission. A non-lockup converter will only be roughly 90% effecient at cruising speeds, whereas a lockup converter will be 100% effecient at cruising speeds(3rd and 4th, highway speeds) thus reducing fuel consumption and helping aid in emissions.
Correct me if i'm wrong, but if you're putting a lockup converter into(i'm assuming) a 93-97 f-body, you will not need a switch of any kind, it will still be controlled by the car's computer. As long as you don't get a cheep *** ebay converter that just has the turbine and pump spaced, you should be fine. 2400 will be a great improvement over stock, and still very streetable... if noticed at all during city driving.

yea i wondering if the computer would end up just controlling that or when i get it tuned of i could do it like that. but i just found out the b&m is a lockup. only problem is i got the 2.73 gears right now and until i get the 3.42's in i was advised by jegs not to do the convertor just yet. dont wanna burn up the tranny.

Why would the trans burn up with a 2400 stall on 2.73 gears?
There's plenty of cars running around with high stall converters and those gears....
Yes the PCM controls lock up and unless you want to burn the trans up w/excessive heat at highway speeds I highly recommend going back with a lockup converter.

If you insist on doing this twice which you will if you go with a mild 12" now then at least go to a good builder. I am fairly sure all the good 9.5" providers will build you a 12" for little to nothing more than the B&M crap and ti will fit your application better.
I am 100% sure Edge can do this and fairly sure Yank or Vig would as well.
