Default Performance drop from switching from 410 to 373

I just bought a 94 z28 with 410 in the back and was wondering how much of a drop in performance there would be and how many gains in mileage i might see. I havent been able to find a straight answer. The car runs a 12.5 as it sits

Is it A4 or M6? What mods are done to the car?

Honestly with an M6 and the .50 OD 4.10s make all the sense in the world.

With a 26" tire as a guess on my part 75mph is just 2000rpms going to 3.73s will either make 6th almost unusable or you will use it when you shouldn't and end up lugging the motor.
Your problem is elsewhere. My 2800 stall 3.42 cammed Caprice get 18-23 depending on the type of driving and with the lesser OD of the A4 I am turning higher rpms.

could it be the tune perhaps? because for the most part, the engine is stock.

Changing those gears won't get you much, if any mpg gain. It could be the tune, since you said it's for 92 octane. The 1.6 RR will decrease your mpg as well. Check the plugs and the O2 sensors, those will keep your mpg up. I'd be happy with 15 mpg and those 1.6 RR, in the city at least. That's what I get and my engine is 100% stock AND a whole second slower.

I get 18-23 out of BOTH of my cars, pure city I could see maybe dipping to 16. I attribute the similar milage of the well modded car to the stockish one to the lighter weight and headers on the modded one. Both are a good bit heavier than yours, maybe you just need to play with your shift points and what gear you use at what speed to improve your milage. You lug it a lot and milage will fall faster than if you were using a little too many revs.
