Default Newbie Spark Plug question

My car has shortie headers on it and i'm wondering how hard it would be to change the plugs aswell as what plugs to run , what gap , and what wires ? Any tricks of the trade will be helpfull.

Thanks,
Dale

.050 is the factory gap. I have an AC Delco 8mm wire ignition system, Bosch Platinum2 plugs(no gap needed). Have a good 3 hours fun changing the plugs...

On mine, the #5 cylinder, cause of the header, I have to use just the plug socket, and turn the back of it with a Crescent Wrench, a ratchet won't fit. 3 hours, some flying tools, a few cuss words, it gets done.

Yeah I just did mine today, I agree about 3 hours. All of the ones on the drivers side were pretty easy, the passenger side was a PITA for #2 and #8. I ended up getting #8 from the bottom. I did #2 last. I just disconnected the smog hose and sort of pried the metal tube it is connected to out of the way. I figured that was easier than taking off the alternator. I just read on another thread someone saying to just remove the Y pipe and it makes the passenger side easier.. I dont know about that. I bought the champion platinums for $3/ea, $85 for MSD 8.5mm

Everyone says to get the NGKs TR55s for your spark plugs, but a lot of what I have read says they last about 25,000 miles so keep that in mind.

And double check that factory gap spec, I've read .060 is factory and everyone gaps theirs .050 or .055

BTW having a universal joint did not help me at all. I'd say all you need is the spark plug socket, a 2" extension, 4" ext, and a cresent wrench. If you dont have a spark plug socket yet make sure you buy one that has the 6 points on the end of it where your rachet goes in, that way if you can't use your rachet you can turn it with a crescent wrench.
