You don’t want a 93 if you are looking for all out gas mileage because the 93's are fuel injected to where it fires the injectors on banks, left bank right bank and back and forth. The 94's to newer are sfi or Sequential fuel injection were the injectors fire one at a time thus making it more efficient. Not to mention the 93's don’t have the vented opti witch could cause some serious hart ach at that mileage for you, because replacing the opti can cost anywhere from 200-700 if you have it done by someone. Also the 93's done really have a reprogram able pcm they have chips making them harder to get a tune from because you have to get chips burned for you. They are speed density rather then mass air flow witch I hear is great for forced induction but not as good as mass airflow naturally aspirated. If you ask me I say get a 94-95 if you can because the 96 and newer are obd2 and have to pass emissions and ses light will fail them, and even if you know someone their is nothing they can do because they have to plug it into a machine. That’s in Nys but im pretty sure that’s equal across the country. Just my opinion, not trying to bash the 93's or 96+ newer ones just letting you know some of the things that you should take into consideration.

The theory is that we are batched fire injected still, and have no MAF sensor variables in our PCMs. Batch fire has been proven to be more adaptable than sequential. And its been argued that it's output can go higher but I don't remember why.

Basically the 93s are the simplest design in the LT1 platform, things got added on and intergrated later, changes for the better(or worse)

OBD1 is an advantage. Many ppl convert to OBD1 from OBD2. Chip burning does suck booty but we have piggy back chips which means you can send your aftermarket chip back to get burned and put the stock one back in directly on the PCM and ride out with stock settings while the piggy get burned.

Later model optis can be put into a 93.
