Argh! Ticking!

Argh! Ticking! My car has recently devolped a tick. It isn't too loud, but its clearly evident when Im next to something the noise can bounce off of (drivethru's). It seems to go away under acceleration, but it could just be drowned out. But at idle its clear as day.
It seems to be coming directly from the block as far as I can tell. Any ideas? Its driving me nuts.

can you describe this sound, sounds like the same thing is happening to mine, but i think its from the offroad headers im using and the air pump and EGR are still hooked up so its bouncing off
I'd say exhaust leak(exhaust manifold gasket maybe?) or an arcing plug/wire. Go out in the dark and watch under the hood while the car is running. If you light flashing where the spark plugs are or off of the coil wire right below the intake elbow you probably have a bad plug or wires.
Try new gaskets before you try lifters, I had a bad exhaust leak that several people thought was lifters and I replaced the lifters only to have the ticking still there. I would try that first...
