Default Will High Engine Temps Make Car Slower?

When I went the track a week ago my car was at about 210 or so the whole time, and I even shut the car off between runs to let it cool off. My questions are: Will this make my car slower? Will this affect or hurt my motor in a big way? And how much will a 160* thermo help me? Any help appreciated, thanks.

I would say you should see a better 1/4 mile time if it can run colder. I've seen cars run better when run cold than hot at the track, their times increase a little when run too consecutive on passes.

Higher temps will make the air less dense, all an engine is a air pump, the more air you get in and out the more power. Cold air is denser and will allow more air to get in and and later out on exhaust cycle.

I still cannot see how 20 degrees coolant temp can effect 2000 degrees combustion chamber temps.

I CAN see how it can effect the timing tables. Tweak the timing in the 160 temp range into the 180 or 200 and get the same benefits without messing with thermostat.

are you kidding me? 160 is even pushin it. most people get them but thats still not good. bet a 180 therm and a fan switch. therefore when when you hit traffic you can flip low fan on and even if ur sittin for a while u can hit high fan on aswell.

but general rule of thumb, higher temps of the engine = less power out of the motor.

next time u run, ice your manifold between runs and keep temps around 190 degrees.

i run a 160 with a tune and it runs so much better now that the fans come on earlier..just a lot smoother in traffic and it doesnt heat up..less stress on the parts...and for reference i ran 3/10 slower once my car hot lapped versus it being cold after a three hour cooldown at the track..that was on my old v6
